Hiking in Taroko Gorge, Taiwan is one of the best adventures in the country (along with surfing, hiking the bizarre southern coast, and scuba diving for hammerhead sharks). The incredible convenience, low cost, and the sheer volume of brilliant scenery that can be absorbed in a single day made this one of the best trips that I have ever taken.
My Top Five Budget Asian Adventures for 2012
Last year was an incredible year for me. I probably went on more adventure trips than ever before in my life; I went glacier caving, hiked the Banaue Rice Terraces and Taiwan’s Vertigo Trail, learned to scuba dive and swam with sharks, and attended my first Burning Man Festival.
Andrew Badenoch and the 77Zero Project

On March 25th Andrew Badenoch will be embarking on a journey unlike any I’ve ever heard of; he will travel from Seattle to the Arctic Ocean and back over land and water one a fatbike (a bike with super fat tires that can handle terrain that renders a normal mountain bike useless, like snow) and a packraft (small inflatable boat). He will use no fossil fuels to propel himself, or even to cook. His goals? To show the possibilities of sustainable travel and, of course, to have an incredible time.
Park City, Utah Adventure Travel Guide
High in the mountains and near several lakes, Park City is one of America’s favourite outdoors destinations. Outdoors adventure opportunities there are varied and spectacular. Rock climbing around Park City is incredible. There are numerous mountain biking and hiking trails for people of all abilities. There are several world-class ski hillswithin driving distance, and numerous rivers and lakes for canoeing, rafting, and kayaking. Enough cannot be said about this place.
How Red Bull Made Snowboarding History: The Supernatural Snowboard Competition
On February 4th a ten-minute helicopter ride north of Nelson BC (just a couple of hundred kilometres from my hometown, incidentally) Red Bull made a course for a competition dubbed ‘Supernatural’ that will change the face of competitive snowboarding (and hopefully the way slopes are designed).
Philippines Adventures PT1: Manila to the Banaue Rice Terraces
About Manila
The Philippines is awesome in almost every way. It’s cheap and exotic. The locals are charming and kind. The beaches look like postcards and the jungles look Indiana Jones movie sets. And there is rum, smooth delicious rum, for less than $2 USD per bottle. Go to the Philippines. Go now, go often, and go for a long time but, for the love of God, after you get off the plane get the hell out of Manila as fast as you can.
Review: Haeleum T-Shirt with Insect Shield
As a tree-planter I worked in some remote areas where the air was so thick with mosquitoes that we gave up trying to squish them. You couldn’t do it; you’d be slapping yourself in the face all day long. So, we gave up and simply let the mosquitoes eat us. We had no other choice.
